My name is Cedar (they/them), and I am the founder and primary operator of Modern Magix—a small-batch ritual goods business rooted in personal practice, intention, and everyday magic. I handle everything from product development and production to packaging, fulfillment, photography, and the many behind-the-scenes layers that bring the work to life.
I’ve been a lifelong creator, and I’ve been practicing witchcraft in one form or another since around 2009. My practice is centered in hearth-and-home, with a strong focus on kitchen witchery—working with accessible materials, sensory experience, and intention woven into daily life. Over time, my work has expanded to include influences from folk belief systems and a growing exploration of the Ukrainian side of my ancestry, which I continue to integrate into my personal practice.
My understanding of witchcraft didn’t begin in a single tradition, but through exploration—early Wiccan-influenced materials, online communities, and a deep curiosity about metaphysical experience. I was especially drawn to the idea that magic is not confined to rigid systems, but can be shaped through personal connection, intuition, and practice. For me, witchcraft is less about strict structure and more about how one interacts with energy, intention, and the unseen.
Much of my early practice was shaped by a sensitivity to atmosphere and emotion—an awareness of how spaces, objects, and actions can hold or shift energy. Cooking, in particular, became one of my earliest forms of ritual practice. I see it as a deeply sensory and relational form of magic: working with ingredients, tending the home, and creating nourishment as an act of care and intention.
I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Gender Studies and Creative Writing from Rhode Island College in 2014. While my path didn’t include formal business training, my inclination toward making, gifting, and sharing what I create eventually led to the formation of Modern Magix.
Outside of my work, I spend my time cooking, foraging, hiking, gardening, and practicing yoga. These practices are not separate from my work—they inform it. They shape how I understand rhythm, seasonality, care, and attention in both life and craft.
At its core, my work is an extension of my personal practice: grounded in lived experience, shaped through ongoing learning, and focused on creating ritual tools that feel intentional, accessible, and connected to everyday life.
